Bicentennial Gala in Austin
The year 2010 marks the Bicentennial of the Mexican Independence from Spain and the Centennial of the Mexican Revolution. This extraordinary gala will be the only stop of the Authentic Flavors of Mexico tour in the Southwest United States. Events will also be held throughout the year in New York, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles. Chef Roberto Santibañez Culinary Curator and Mixologist Junior Merino will develop the general theme and scope of the events.
Authentic Flavors of Mexico will replicate the magnificent experience of dining in one of the best restaurants in Mexico. A select group of guests will have the opportunity to taste delectable, authentic, Mexican dishes, inspired and created especially for this event by world-renowned Chefs David Garrido and Miguel Ravago, with the assistance of Historian José Luis Curiel , President of the Mexican Society of Gastronomy and Enology. The evening will be an elegant and delightful explosion of colors, music, scents, and flavors that will create a truly authentic Mexican atmosphere for years to remember.
As an exclusive treat for our guests, Diana Kennedy will present her newest book Oaxaca. The evening program will also include the giving of the prestigious “Authentic Mexican Restaurant” award to select establishments in Austin, San Antonio, Houston and Dallas, as well as the recognition of the five participating Chefs for the evening. Two scholarships will be awarded for the renowned culinary school “Claustro de Sor Juana” in Mexico City.
The evening will be crowned with a performance by Carolina Córdova and Mariachi music. Don’t miss the opportunity to participate in this magical gastronomic journey!
